BIG FLOODS IN CANADA.
Montreal, April 20. As a consequence of the. hot weather tho snows of Ui<: past winter have suddenly melted and the rivers and streams in all pails of tho province have become swollen to an extent unknown in 30 years. Great damage is being done to property along the banks. Many villages and towns aro wholly or partly under water, the inhabitants being compelled to move about in boats and on rafts. Dozens of bridges, including some of tho largest in the province, havo been carried away, together with numerous mills, farmhouses and other buildings, as well as logs, lumber and movable property of all kinds. Railway traffic is interrupted by wash-outs and tho carrying away of bridges. Sherbrookk, Quebec, April 18. Tho floods in the St. Francis Riven- for 50 miles south and north of hero still continue, and fears aro entertained that the worst is still to come, the ice m St. Francis Lake not having started yet. Tho Quebec Central Railway bridge, a half-mile from hero, gave way this morning.
