GREYTOWN.
A fire occurred hero this (Saturday) morning about 2 o’clock, by which a sixroomed cottage, owned and occupied by Mr John Dorrcll (the overseer for the Waiohino River Board), was totally do stroyed. The only persons on tho premises at tho time of tho lire were Mrs Dorroll and her son. Tho origin is unknown, though it is believed to have been caused by a defective chimney. The fire was first noticed by tho son, who gave an alarm, but though the Fire Brigade was quickly upon the scene, they could do nothing—and even if tho lira had not had such a hold as it had the scarcity of water would have prevented anything being dono. The property and furniture are, I understand, insured with the Liverpool, London and Globe Insurance Company, but as Mr Dorrell was away in Masterton I could get no definite information.
