DRAMATIC STUDENTS.

A very large audience was present at the Opera House on Alonday when the Dramatic Students gave a performance in aid of tho funds of the Wellington Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The first, piece staged was tho well-known drama, ” The Chimney Corner.” The principal role— Peter Probity, a chandler —was taken by Mr H. E. Nicliolls, who gave an excellent interpretation of the character. Miss Lun Watson was well fitted with the character of Patty Probity, wife of Peter, and Aliss Mabel Hill made an attractive Grace Emery. Mr W. P. Bastin was seen to advantage in the character of the nonagenarian Solomon Probity. Air W. Simm creditably filled tho role of John Probity, and the parts of Charles Chetty and Sifter were taken by Mr D. MacNieoll and Air It. Hall respectively. The drama was well received, and at the close the actors received a hearty call before tho curtain. The performance concluded with the old but welcome farce “Chiselling,” in which the characters were ably sustained by Air A. Newton, Aliss Jessie Newton, Air R. llall, Air AY. P. Bastin and Aliss Queenie Letham. Air 11. E. Niobolls was a most capable stage manager. An efficient orchestra under the direction of Air Hotop played a good selection of music during the intervals. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals aro to be congratulated on the result of the performance.
