OBITUARY.

j THE LATE SIR PATRICK BUCKLEY. | The funeral of the late Sir Patrick Buckley : took place on May 20, commencing with a Solemn Requiem Mass in St. Joseph’s Church. Buckle street. There was a large congregation, including the students of St. Patrick’s College. The Very Rev Father Devoy was I the celebrant; Rev Father Hickson, deacon ; Lev Father Bowden, sub-deacon ; and Rev | Father Bower, master of ceremonies. Tho Very Rev Dr Watters officiated, assisted by the Very Rev Father Devoy. Dr Watters delivered a funeral address, in tho course of ; which he said that though their friend was gone from them they would keep his memory green and heartily bewail his loss. To mother i earth they would commit his remains, far ; from tho land that bore him —the stalwart i form, tho kindly face, the genial srnilo, tho I glistening eye, tho powerful grasp, the martial mien—and pray that in peace they might rest until the last accounting day. And when in thought and prayer his memory Hilled before their mind’s eye, as please God it often would, then from the depth of their ! hearts and souls in love and gratitude would I they cry, “ Eternal rest give to him, () Lord, i and let perpetual light shine upon him.” The coffin was then borne to tho hearse, the tiic-hbers of the Ministry acting as pall b' erers. The procession, which was one of the largest ever seen in Wellington, and included about 50 cabs and other vehicles, passed through the principal streets to Karon Cemetery, largo numbers of people congregating all along the line of route. Keyworth, chief ollioer of the steamer Wainui, who was drowned at Grey mouth last Saturday week, were interred at the Karoii Cemetery on Thursday morning. The funeral left the wharf, tho body having been brought to Wellington by tho steamer Grafton on Wednesday night, and was largely attended. A largo number of wreaths were sent, including those from Captain Lambert, the officers, engineers, sailors and firemen of the Wainui and tho Shipmasters’ Association. Tho Rev It. Coffey officiated at the graveside. HERR 'PUTSCHKA. Herr Tutschka, a well-known Auckland musician, who was also in Napier not long Binco, died last week. T. SCOTT. Thomas Scott, of Upper Takaka, who was a Nelson representative in the football match against Auckland last year, died from bloodpoisoning a few days ago. MRS O’SULLIVAN. Mrs O’Sullivan, relict of the late Mr R. J. O’Sullivan, Chief Inspector of Schools in Auckland, died at Greymouth last week. J. DAVIES, M.L.C. Tho Hon John Davies, M.L.C., of Sydney, is dead. F. W. C. STURM. Ono of Hawke’s Bay’s oldest settlers passed away on Saturday—Sir F. W. G. Sturm, aged 85. Ho came to Now Zealand before it was a British colony, forming ono of tho scientific expedition under Baron Hochstetter sont out by tho Austrian Government, and he was so enamoured of the country that ho decided to remain behind when tho expedition returned. THE ARCHDUKE CHARLES OF AUSTRIA. Tho Archduke Charles of Austria, brother of tho Emperor, is dead. MADAME C. SCHUMANN. Tho death is announced in Berlin of Madame Clara Schumann, tho eminent pianist, aged 77.
