MELROSE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
At tho monthly meeting of tho Melrose Borough Council on Tuesday, tho Inspector was instructed to report as to tho encroachment of residents of Roseneath upon the Evans’ Bay road. The subject of forming an approach to Mr Collier’s property ill island Bay was inferred to tho Jn.-.pector of Works. Belters were received from MessrsGreaso and Barber, offering to guarantee half tho cost of forming William street, Kilbirnie. it was decided to take steps to remove a nuisance alleged to exist at Island Bay. Tho report of the Public "Works Committee was read and adopted, clause 1 being amended to read as follows: —“That tho offer of the Wellington City Council to erect some new lamps in the Ohiro road, provided this Council will pay half the cost of lighting them, bo accepted, the number of lamps not to exceed five." Accounts amounting t0251G7 17s 7d wero passed for payment. Tho Council went into committee to consider the proposal to construct a tramway to Island Bay, and on resuming it was reported that the following resolution had been carried :—“ That the matter i stand over for further information to be supplied, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to the applicants.”
