ARTESIAN WELLS, So called from Arte.La (now Artois), in France, where they are very numerous, are considered by many to he the pledge of Australasia's future greatness ; and, whether this he so or not, it can scarcely he doubted hut that the introduction of Artesian Wells throughout the length an 1 breadth of this continent would turn the hot, burning, barren plains into gardens of verdure and beauty. When the parched land is hot and dried up, it requires copious draughts of water ; in the same way that when a man is hot at.d thirsty, he drinks copiously of Wolfe’s Schnapps, which not only quenches the thirst, but adds zest to the appetite, and acts like magic on the liver and kidneys. 28
