EDUCATIONAL.
TheTimaru Board of Education passed a resolution disapproving of excessive homo lessons, and recommending teachers to give as little homo work as possible, arithmetic being specially disapproved. At the meeting of tho West-port School Committee, the lady member made persistent efforts to have two members of the committee unseated, on lho ground that they are members of the Civil Service, and consequently disqualified. The Chairman ruled that the matter was one for the Board to deal with. There were some sharp interchanges between tho lady and other members. At Waimangaroa, tho lady chairman was assailed by rudo remarks from other ladies amongst tho public.
At a meeting of tho Auckland Board of Education Mr Udy intimated that he would resign the chairmanship next week. A new election of chairman is to bo proceeded with, and he stated that ho would not bo a candidate. Mr Muir was not present, but forwarded an apology for non-attend ineo as chairman of tho board.
The Wanganui Kdueation Board has appointed a committee to make enquiries as to the establishment of District High Schools at Palmerston and Hawera.
