PERMANENT ARTILLERY SOCIAL (No. 2 BATTERY). Tho members of the above corps gave a very successful “social” in tho Drillshed on Friday night, May 15th, in aid of tho Brunnerton Relief Fund. The hall was nicely decorated with greenery, bunting and Chinese lanterns. A BIRMINGHAM SOCIAL GATHERING
One of the most enjoyable dances given this season was held at Air Robert Alcßoth’s residence last Friday, 15th Alay. About 20 couples wero present, and all enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Somo very pretty dresses were worn by the ladies : Airs 14. Alcßeth wore a black laco dress with black trimming to match ; Airs Albert Alcßeth looked, as usual, charming in a cream satin; Airs J. AVelford, black and gold; Mrs Dr Smith, of Hunterville, cream satin with train and corded silk trimmings; Aliss Shannon looked well in a pink satin ; Aliss Kathleen Shannon in a pale cream dress; Aliss Alcßeth, of Alarton, pale blue; Aliss Greenfield, of Nelson, wore a very pretty dress of black silk; Aliss Whishaw, black and pink, and many others tc o numerous to moution. I think tl o
honours of tho evening could be safely given to Mrs A. Mcßeth, who always looks well in a ballroom. I noticed among the gentlemen present the following : Major Moore, Messrs Haythorno, Banks, Church, Moss (2), Shannon, Aldridge, Baynes, Stanley, A. Mcßeth, Matheson, Goodbehere, Harden, Johnston (2), Fisher and many others. The supper was excellent, and showed great care had been given to the management. Tho floor was very good, although rather limited as to space. The music was supplied by Mr Fanthorpo and Mr Chung. Dancing was kept up till the small hours of the morning. A most enjoyable time was spent by all.
