Regarding the British soldier in India, Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Brackonbury says he is well paid. Ile receives tho equivalent of his sterling pay at tho current official rate of exchange; and, as his expenditure is all in India, he has benefited by tho fall in the sterling value of the rupee. Hois woll-fod, well-housed, well-clothed, and a new clothing scheme is on the point of being introduced, which, while it results in economy to tho State, will also save the pocket of the soldier, .uid will ensure his always being clothed in a dress suitable to tho climate.
