Washington, May 1 1. Tho Foreign Committee of the Senate has asked President Cleveland to continue the enquiry into land claims in Fiji, with a view to a settlement with Lag! tod. Washington, May 16. Professor Langley, of the Smithsonian Institute in this city, has invented a machine for flying half a mile at a height, of 100 feet. The House of Representatives has carried a recommendation in favour of an international gold and silver coinage. Washington, May 17. A cyclone destroyed the western portion of the town of Sherman, in Texas, and 120 persons were killed. Ottawa, May 17. Tho Frcneh-Canadiaus in Montreal had their indignation aroused by a reference to Mr Laurier in tho course of a speech by Sir Charles Tapper. They prevented him continuing by getting up a fight with tho Premier’s supporters.
