THE RING.
A boxing match took place at Dontice’s gymnasium last week between William Campbell (a coloured man) and P. Moronoy. There was a crowded attendance, and great interest was shown in the contest;. Prior to the match exhibitions wore given by S. Hill and B. Mahoney and S. Carter and Donovan. Campbell and Moronoy were to have boxed eight rounds, but at the conclusion of the sixth it was announced that Moronoy had hurt his thumb and declined to continue the contest. Mr G. Clotike, who acted as referee, said that the match as far as it went was fairly equal, but for want of condition Moronoy gave up after the sixth round. Mr Pcttmgell acted as timekeeper. During the evening Donovan announced that he was prepared to box Campbell in a fortnight’s timo, and Campbell accepted the challenge.
