NAPIER PARK MEETING.

The winter meeting of the Napier I ’a k Racing Club was held last week to tin: usual accompaniment of wretched weather, Inc notwithstanding that the attendance was good. The results of the racing are published in another column. Mr Piper, the starter, twin his horses away in fine style and some of tlm fields were excellent, while Mr Danvers is to be congratulated on the way lie kept things going. A feature of the racing throughout the day was the way in which unexpected outsiders came to the front. This was notably the case in the Trial Handicap Hurdles, where K:uigipunehu scored a victory for Mr Quinlivan, pay.eg the handsome dividend of £l9 7s. Um.-d y>■ gaas, who was favourite, came in third, murii to the disgust of the backers. The Electric Handicap was another wm-d rase. Moon raker, who was rather a favour: in for this race proved his (lying pow<-rs by winning, after a beautiful race, although In.time was not fast; tho course was in mi -k a soft state that fast time was out iff iii; question. Now we come to the Napier Htccplesha--. This race showed the handieappor’s geinu . Timothy, who came in third, is a heller horse than the public reckon on, ami mwe will be heard of him at Wanganui. Although Mutiny won from Morag, instead of my tip (Morag, 1; Mutiny, 2 ;) it was not. so much due to his superior powers as to the fact tire Morag, who looked like a certain winner, came down at the sod wall it lie last jump and so Sweeney was able tojdo no more than bring him in second. The Hunters’ Steeplechase was not so well patronised as it should have been, 1 here being only three entries, llihia, who won, is a bettor mare than some people would have expected, but it must be remembered that she was carrying a lighter weight, limn Glengarry or Hepo. The Stewards’ Stakes was,Jus far as enlr;< ; went, the best race of the day. Panoply'.-, win was a very popular one, but one <-f 1 inmost disappointing features of the race vee the way in which Marino ran. Marino ba - llot done anything yet, despite the persistent backing of her fiiemls. 'The Handicap Hurdle Race, which v• won by Tally-ho, was remarkable fort.a: fact that at starting no one could say with any degree of decision which horse was going to win. As an evidence of this the dividend was £1 15s on live starters.

The SeLlli rs’ Handicap, which was the race, was alsodistinguishcd by the numbe entries. Miry Marion, the winner, shown herself to be both plucky and f She was run very close by the favoui Belford. who came in second.
