THE WANGANUI STEEPLE AND TRIAL STEEPLE.

BY THE CIIIEL

The Wanganui Steeplechase Meeting is to bo run on the '2sth of this month. There is a good show of horses for tho steeple, which is of course the event of the meeting. Tho old veteran Tiritea is at the top of the list with 12st 91b, Mutiny running him close with List Gib. These two will have a grand race between themselves, but with Rootles at 10-it 71b and Gillie at lOat 01b there slnuld be no doubts but that the heavy weights will tell. Rootles has been going well lately, and after his win in the Handicap Steeplechase at the EgmoiH meeting he should tako a deal of heating. I fancy there will be a tight race between him and Gillie. Gillie is in grand fettle, and I should say there will be just enough of him to do the trick.

For the Trial Steeple, as far as my judgment goes, I think there will probably be placed Narrate, Sir Athol and Freeborn. This, however, is a race over which there will be somo speculation. Mr Evetl has shown us that he is a master in his line and concealed tho winner with splendid judgment. When the Napier meeting conies off it should clear away a few clouds that are hanging about the form and style of sonic of them.
