Mr Asquith, who was Home Secretary in tho Into Liberal Government, speaking at Trowbridge, said the recent disclosures regarding the Transvnl bad strained the British claim to paramount power in South Africa. lb; regretted tho departure, from a slroii;.;- and consistent lino of policy, and maintained that a prompt enquiry was demanded.
Sir John Millais, recently elected president of the Royal Academy,is ill.
The (,'oliden Club has passed a resolution expressing regret at tho death of Sir Henry Pai'kes.
