The Hawke's Bay Herald, in a spirit of sarcasm, congratulates the New Zealand Rugby Unions on their sportsmanlike liberality in subscribing 27 sovereigns to tho proposed Hobei) testimonial. Wo bopo, remarks tho Herald, that the promoters will be ashamed to forward this miserable dole to Mr Hoben ! The only satisfactory featuro about the miserable business as far as we are concerned is that tho local Union is the largest contributor, having forwarded £5. The proportions of Wellington and Canterbury were, we believe, £3 each. Tho question of subsidising another steamer to call at Raratonga, Tahiti and several other islands has again been under consideration by Cabinet.
