THE PREMIER'S BIRTHDAY TO BE CELEBRATED.

Th 3 proposal which was made last year to celebrate the fiftieth birthday of the lion the Premier by presenting him with a congratulatory address, and which, at the request of tho Premier, was allowed to lapse so as not to conflict with the demonstration given to the Hon Mr Ward on his return from England, has again been renewed. On Tuesday a private meeting of a considerable number of friends*of Mr Seddon took place at the Exchange Buildings, the presence of ladies being a marked feature. was decided to hold a grand "social" in Wellington on the 22nd Juno, Mr Seddon s birthday, and to invite him to be present to receive an address expressive of the high appreciation of Mr Seddon's political services to the Colony and esteem for his personal character. Thoso present resolved themselves into a general committee, with power to add to their number. A Finance Committee was appointed. Mrs G. A. Schoch was elected hon secretary, arid Mr L. L. Harris requested to act as hon treasurer. The meeting, which was exceedingly enthusiastic, adjourned for a week, the Finance Committee in the meantime'to act as an executive with full powers. _______
