THE WORK OF DAIRY INSPECTION.
At the monthly meeting of tho Dairy Regulations Commifteeon Tuesday, the Inspector presented his monthly report, in which he stated that only a small quantity of milk was being sent into town from outside the district, and all of it was taken to the Union Steam Ship Co.'s steamers. He reported that the milk-tester had arrived from London, and was now in use, and it answered tho purpose well. Ho was able to tell tho exact quality of the milk testod. In regard to the case of typhoid fever in a dairy in Wellington, the Inspector reported that all the necessary precautionary steps were, taken at onco. The patient was sent to tho Hospital, tho sale of tho milk was stopped, tho place thoroughly cleansed and disinfected, and it was not re-opened until Dr Martin had given a clean certificate. Tho committee decided that cases of sickness of more than two days' duration occurring at a dairy should be reported at once, so that tho medical officer could satisfy himself as to the nature of it. This resolution was passed in accordance with a suggestion made to the City Council by Dr Martin. A communication was received from tho Department of Agriculture in reference to the letter of Mr 11. D. Crawford—received at last meeting of the committee, on the subject of tuberculosis in cattle -stating that the Government will be asked to introduce a Bill next session to give effect to the suggestions contained in the liter.
A sub-committee consisting of the'.Mayors of Ilutt and Onslow, Captain Dawson, Councillors Burridge and Lower was appointed to make an inspection of several dairies and cowshed.-, in the district, and present a report at next meeting of the committee.
The inspector wa.t instructed to make a report to next meeting of all perrons who have. not. yet complied with the notice sorved on them to put. their premises in accordance with the regulations.
