Tho following, from tho /li'siraZrtsmii-, may prove interesting to some of the reaeers of this column:—Distemper has recently made its appearance in several kennels in and round Melbourne, in some cases with most disastrous results. Mr O. YV. Campbell has been exceptionally unfortunate,, having lost the whole of bis litter of great Danes, by Inquisitor—Havilab Thistle. This is a very serious loss, not only to Mr Campbell, but to tho fancy generally, as great Danes are comparatively scarce in Australia, and have up to tho present been in few hand.-.. The following very funny par appeared in the columns of a Sydney paper last week : - -" The very newest Victorian craze is to he the breeding of Dachshunds. Lady Btassey and Government House have contracted a consuming love for them. Governor Brassey has several highly-bred Dachshunds in quarantine, about the only other purebreds owned in Victoria (also in quarantine) being four owned by two wellknown footballers of Melbourne (brothers), who havo received over 200 offers for a lifter shortly expected." 'The above really deserves a first place in tho list of dog stories.
