TO CORRESPONDENTS

"Novice" (New Plymouth).—Yes; they are an American production, and are manufactured by the firm of Morgan and Wright. Chicago. ' There are several American machines in Wellington fitted with them, but as I have not heard of any of the riders puncturing their tyres, I am unable to give you an instance where the "quick-repair " device has been used here. I will, however, give you what a writer in the Inrh Wheelman recently said on the subject-" Certainly, like all pneumatic tyres they are liable to puncture, but then in this respect they are at an advantage over detachable tyres, as their construction prevents the possibility of nipping or pinching the inner tube, which is also protected from the spoke heads, another sourco of trouble with de tachable tyres. Our own personal experience of these tyres further convinces us that all the claims made for them xra fully justified, as we have found them very fast and comfortable, easy of manipulation, ami our one experience of the ' < .nick-repair ' device proved to our satisfaction that the extremely simple method was most effective" 1 may add that it if my intention to havo a pair of these double tube "quickrepair " tyres fitted to my next mount. "J.H.8." (Danovirke).—The best method of preventing water ponctrating through the cuts and thereby rotting the canvas is to thoroughly remove all dust or mud from the cuts and insert a piece of cotton wool which has been saturated with indiarubbor solution. If this operation is neatly performed, very little water will be able to get in. The swellings or " blisters ''show that tho canvas is giving way, and if they are not attended to tho tyre will burst. If the tyro has many blisters, it should ho recanvassod by a competent repairer, but if there aro only two or three blisters, you can repair tlie tyre yourself by solutioning a piece of canvas across the weakness on the inside of the cover and allowing the ends to overlap the wire a little.
