DEPARTMENTAL NEWS.
Cabinet have decided to ask the Imperial authorities to allow their delegate to repre-
sent New Zealand at the Buda-Pesth telegraphic conference. Inspector Emerson, of Napier, lias been promoted to be a first-class Inspector. Inspector McGovern, of Greymouth, has boon appointed to take charge of the New Plymouth district, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Inspector Thomson.
Among the Bills which the Government will introduce next session will be one dealing with thoquostion of infant life protection, so as to more effectually further prevent the stato of things that prevailed in the Dean case.
in regard to the application made for a club charter at Feilding, Cabinet have carefully considered the matter, and have decided that, ponding legislation placing clubs under control, no new charters shad be granted. The tender of the D.I.C. has been accepted for furniture and fittings for tho Government Buildings, Wellington. Tho application of the Dunedin Chatnbor of Commerce for a subsidy for tho steamers to Westorn Australia has beon considered by Cabinet, and referred to the PostmasterGeneral for enquiry and for further information.
