THE LEPROUS CHINESE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I road rii article in the Eveuing Post of Wednesday last, in which it said that Lady Stout stated that her husband's views were not her views. I am rather sorry her views are not his views on this important question ; and T am quite sure Lady Stout has never seen any part, of the iruier life of the Chinese, or she wmild never have had the presumption to stale what she did. if she had seen what the writer has seen, the dirt and filth, she would never for a moment advocate < hi nose immigration. As to tlmir being industrious, ave do not doubt it, hut their cleanliness and modes of living—well, one need only visit tlmir dens and see for him or herself the filth and squalor that pervades there. A writer in the New Zealand Times said that Lady Stout had only to visit Honolulu to see the dirt and misery there ; hut it i.-> not necessary, by any means, to .go so jar from home. Let, ma/ visit the Chinese houses in any part of (he Colony, and then I’m afraid aim will change her views.— I am, Ac., One Who 1C nows. Wellington, April :10th, LTJIi.
