A POLITICAL TURNCOAT.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I wrote you a letter a while ago about a political Don Quixote. I now turn I my attention to tho turncoat of New Zealand polities, viz., Sir Robert Stent. Sir, I you will recollect that when the Liberal j (roverument was foolish enough to bring I this man into Parliament it was a conj siderable time before he began to show the ; cloven foot. When or.ee ho did, Mr Soddon and his party lost no time in fceaiing off his cloak of hypocrisy and showing him as he is. That Sir Robert Stout has failed to betray the Liberal Party is no fault of his. He has done his best, and his name is a word of reproach even amongst Die members of the Opposition, whose political code of honour is none of the highest. There is one thin--, however, in connection with tho hon gentleman that is hard to understand. J low did he manage to hoodwink the Libel al Government, for without i hem he would never have gob into Parliament? It was only to oblige the Government that tho electors of Inangahua voted for him ; it wasn't because they liked Stout, for they did not. Poor chap, he wauls to be made Premier, and is given with envy because | Sir Seddoii is a belter man than he, and commands the respect and confidence of tin' people of New Zealand. However, let Sir Robert Stout talk about good government, cold tea, social purity, and as much National Ass. drivel as he likes, the people of New /'.aland know him as a political turncoat. The Stout-Vogel Government was a fine sample of the social purity, good government business.—l am, Ac, Friend of the People. Wellington, April 27.
