MR BOYD'S CONCERT.

At the Art Gallery Mr and Mrs Mac Duff IJoyd, assisted l»y an orchc-tra under Air Parker’s baton, and some of our local musicians, gave their animal concert to an audience which filled tlio room and enjoyed the music. The event of the evening was the production of Lcethoven's ooneerto for violin and orchestra, Mr Parker conducting. Mr Loyd played the violin part with great power and skiil in the most mn-ieian-liko style, doing justice to the stately, noble theme. The orchestra played the accompaniment with great dash, but would have been better for a little more combination. Mrs Loyd sang us “ The Land o’ the Leal ” in tlintdelieule ]mro way of hers which always charms, and is not approached by any of our local singers. It was worth going a long way to hear. Two vocal quartettes (Mrs Loyd, Miss Kelly, Messrs Howe and Pope). Hatton’s “ Softly Pali tlm Shades of levelling '’(unaccompanied) and Piiisuti’s “The .Sea Hath its Pearls,” were very noticeable, the singers doing ample justice to the choice music, with good, well-balanced, well-blended pari singing in the bo-1, style of that ditlienlt and, with u-:, not suliioieutiy practised ait. A I graceful, delicious gv/otte of Volti’s for violin (.Mr Loyd); a duet of Viotti’s for violins | (.Miss Winnie Pliott and Mr Loyd) excel- j lenlly played, til? lady hewing good style, free execution and rare tone acquired under Mr Loyd s tuition ; Loieldieu’s overtrro to j by the orchestra; four songs, ifoeckcd’s . “Wishes and Fish.es,” by Miss Camp-j bell, who gave us the words of ln-r j little story with exceptional (dearness : " The | Letter Land ” an 1 ! lie “ Wreath of | L’o.-os,” carefully sung’ by Mrs Warburton, and Sullivan’:' “(I .Men l.viv,” r.itlmr an j ambitious elfort for a young ginger, given by ! MrPojie with a solidity, si rengtii and range I of voice (ba.-s) and the rudiments of a correct vie which will one day give him a leading | po.-iti on among our singers if ho will eon- j tinue l!r.i industry of which he gave ample j pleasant lid !e concert.
