The Hospital Trustees at a meeting yesterday, decided that in order to pay the salaries a cheque should ho drawn for the amount stolen. Tho number of civil cases heard in tho Magistrate's Court, Wellington, for the first quarter of the current year was 890, of which 818 wero hoard beforo Stipendiary Magistrates and 72 before Justices of the Peace. The aggregate amount sued for was .£14,102 3s Id, and the amount recovered was X'o2ol IGs 2d. The criminal eases hoard numbered 539, against 40a males and 73 females, of which number 10 wero committed for trial, 418 were summarily convicted, 56 cases were dismissed for want of evidence or want of prosecution, and 55 were dismissed on their merits.
