BILLIARDS.
Tho exhibition billiard mutch puiyed at the Albert Hotel last week b-taveen Weiss (the. Australian champion) and .Shipton, of Wellington, attracted a largo attendance. Shipton, who was receiving GUO out of iood, aftei a splendid finish succeeded in winning by 32. Weiss played splendidly throughout, and caught Shipton at 9<>B Tho latter, who played badly in the early stages of the game, improved towards the finish, and made some capital slaAs. Weiss’ best breaks were JSS, 1.19, 98, 73, ij] and 37, Shipton’s best being 3G, 25 and 22. During the evening a collection was taken up by Air P. F. Taucred in aid of tho Bronner Fund, and resulted in tho sum of AM 10s being collected. The expenses amounted to XT, which left <£3 10s net for the fund, and this sum was handed over to the New Zealand Times representative who was present. Air Kenny, proprietor of tho hotel, and Air A. AicGee, the lessee of the room, gavo the use of the room, gas, Ac., free of all charge. A billiard match was played at the Post C fiico Hotel on Tuesday between Messrs F. ■ s and W. Shipton and a local player, : , was won by Weiss. 4he game was 750 and Weiss play ed “ spot barr.nl.” Shiptw: and his fellow-) Jayer scored G'l, and V' ,s 759. The higii ;,t break scored by V is was 112.
