WEDDING BELLS.

At Wesley Church, Taranaki street, yesterday afternoon week, there was a very large assemblage of people to witness the marriage of Miss Dixon, daughter of Mrs > George Dixon, the well-known cordial manufacturer, to Mr W. H. Wallace, of Makara, eldest son of the late Mr Douglas Wallace. The Rev W. Baumber officiated. _ The bride, who looked charming, was attired in silver grey silk with the customary wreath and veil, and was given away by her uncle, Mr T. Duck, of Featherston. The bridesmaids, Misses Florence and Mabel Dixon, sisters of the bride, and Miss Ada Cook, wore dresses of pink nun’s veiling and black velvet hats trimmed with pink roses, 'i he bridegroom s presents to the bridesmaids wore gold brooches set with pearls. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Douglas Wallace, of Keroru. After the ceremony, afternoon tea was served at the residences of the bride’s mother in Dixon street. '1 lie i presents were varied and numerous, and included a very handsome silver-mounted pickle cruet from Airs Dixon’s employees. Mr and Mrs Wallace left in the evening for their - residence, Opau, amidst tho customary | showers of rice and old shoes. Air Edward Bradey, of Pahautanui, fourth son of Air F. Bradey, was married to Miss Kate Reardon, second daughter of Mr Dennis Reardon, ex-prineipal warder at the Terrace Gaol, at St. Alary of the Angels’ Church, Boulcott street, by the Rev Fatiier Goggan, yesterday week. The bride wore a dress of floral silk, trimmed wilh pearls and lac-;. Her veil was fastened by a diamond brooch, the gift of tho bridegroom’s mother, and she also wore a gold brooch, tho gift of the bridegroom. The bridesmaids wore Aliases Mary and Nellie Bradey (sisters of the bridegroom) and Miss E. O’Connor (cousin of the bride), and they wore dresses of fawn cloth with pink silk trimmings, and hats to match. Mr .Willie Bradey acted as best man. The honeymoon will be spent at tho Hot Lancs. Tho presents were numerous and varied. Wanganui papers report the marriage at Waitotara of Aliss Heppio Death, youngest daughter of Mr H. Death, to Mr Ralph Drummond, of Wellington. Mr Norman E. Burton, of the New Zealand Herald staff, was married to Aliss Faulder at St. Sepulchre’s Church, Auckland, on Wednesday week, the Veil Archdeacon Dudley officiating. Air and Airs Burton have gone to Rotorua for the honeymoon. Mr Frank J. Bevun, of the Sydney Daily Telegraph, was married to Aliss Clara Steel, daughter of Air J. R. Steel, in tho Wesleyan Church, Ashburton, last Thursday. Mr J. James, captain, of tho Dune lin Amateur Boating Club, has been presented by the Club with a cruet, pickle jar, biscuit i barrel and other articles, in honour of liis | marriage. At tho Dunedin Telegraph Office, i tho staff presented him with a marble clock.

Tho two lady doctors who have just obtained a footing in the Melbourne Hospital (as recorded in our cable messages) have had a hard fight against the medical men to win this victory. ‘ Tho Faculty of Medicine wore opposed to tho appointments, ar.d the Alodical Students’ Society wrote to the Hospital Committee that the appointment of women doctors would, in tho opinion of the society, seriously interfere with the clinical touching of the hospital. But the women have won. Tho usual weekly meeting of tho Women’s Democratic Union was held in the Psychological room, Ghuzneo street, last week. Airs Tasker, president, who lias just returned from Christchurch, gave a very interesting account of tho Convention. The members cordially welcomed their president. Three new members wore enrolled.
