NEW RAILWAY WORKS.

The operations in connection with the Grey mouth-Point Elizabeth Coal Company’s contracts on the West Coast aro to ho started at once. These consist of the railway bridge across tho Grey River, and two sections of tho railway and plato- , laying. The cost will amount to about <£2.5,000.

Tho Company has resolved to carry out the work oil its own account, and Mr 11. Bigntdl, contractor, Greymouth, lias been appointed manager for this purpose. Mr Napier 8011, the Company’s consulting engineer, left Wellington by the s.s. Wainui yesterday, to initiate the wliolo undertaking.

The first sod on tho No. 5 railway contract is expected to bo turned on Monday, 4th -May. When this work is completed it will enable tho Point Elizabeth Company to place upon the market coal from their new mines at Coal Creek, Camp Creek, Ac. This coal has been tested by experts, and pronounced of first-class quality, both for household and steam purposes.
