ASSOCIATION NOTES.

The Cup matches which were to have commenced last Saturday had to be postponed on account of the heavy rain.

Tho struggle for the Senior Championship should prove exceedingly interesting this season.

The Swifts, last year’s champions, are again very powerful both in the back and forward division, while they have a strong second to fall back upon for reserves should occasion arise.

The Thistles will be strengthened by one or two old country players, whose qualities have yet to be tested.

The Rovers have greatly strengthened their hack division, and will, I think, be very hard to beat.

The Queen’s Bark, although finishing last last season, should secure a more prominent position this year, as their backs will be very much improved. If there is a weakness it is in tho forwards.

The Thorndon and Diamonds have both lost good men, but they seem to be fairly confident, and with their increased knowledge of the game stand a good chance of being well up to the front.

The Wellington Union lias again nominated Mr G. F. C. Campbell as its vice-president on the New Zealand Rugby Union. D. R. Cage, the well-known footballer, arrived from Auckland by the Tasmania last week. Ho will play for the Ponelce Club during the season. The Terrace School were defeated by the Newtown School on Tuesday afternoon by 3 points to nil.
