NEW WESLEYAN CHURCH AT PARAPARUMU.

There was a large gathering at Paraparaumu on Wednesday last week, in tho shape of a soiree to open the new Wesleyan Church just erected there. Tho church is centrally situated, on a valuable site presented by Air Thomas "Waters, of Hill-street, Wellington. Air Clarke has been the minister in tho district for tho past four or five years, and to him is duo to a largo'extent the successful completion of the work. The church will seat nearly 100 people, and is opened fme from debt, with tho exception of a loan of A 25 from the church loan fund, without interest, to bo repaid in easy instalments. The sorieo was a great success. Nikaus and other bush decorations adorned the Technical Schoolroom, where tho tea was served. At tho public meeting tho schoolroom was crowded. Friends came from "Wellington and Levin to rejoice with tho Paraparaumuitcs. Addresses were delivered by Messrs Foster (chairman), Riimage, Prouse and Rev J. Ward, and songs wero given by Air and Airs R. Prouso. The chairman, Air Clarke, who is leaving the district to take charge of a circuit in Canterbury, spoke with great feeling. lie was heartily thanked for his work. It was announced that the Rev W. Dawson, the incoming minister, would preach in tho new church on Sunday next.
