PROPOSED PARK AT BELMONT.

A deputation from the Hutt County Council, consisting of Councillors C. W. Brown (chairman) and G. Brown, waited on the Minister for Lands on Tuesday afternoon with a request that the Government •would purchase a piece of land at Belmont in order that it might be conserved for the use of the public. The deputation, which was introduced by Br Newman, M.H.R., informed the Minister that the land in question was a piece of natural bush about 12 J acres in extent, which was a favourite resort of picnickers, and one of the most beautiful spots anywhere in the vicinity of Wellington. The Hutt County had no reserves whatever, and as this land was greatly used by the Wellington public, and could probably be obtained for about £2l an acre, they thought it would only be fitting for the Government to purchase it for the public use. The Minister, in reply, requested the Hutt County Council to send him their request in writing, and promised to give the matter his consideration.
