WELLINGTON SOCIAL GOSSIP.

Wellington, February 4. Miss M. Kennedy has won the Ladies' Champion Singles at the Thorndon Tennis Courts. Her opponent in the final was Miss Trimnell, and the match was watched with great interest, some very fine play being witnessed. In the Gentlemen's Singles, Mr F. Kebbell and Mr H. Gore met in the final, but, owing to Mr Kebbell hurting his wrist, the match was not finished, but, I believe, is to bo played off at some future period. I may mention that Mr 11. Parker was not a competitor in this tournament. I hear that Mr Parker is thinking of competing at the Australian Tennis Championship Meeting', which is to bo held some time in May. Mrs Beddard gave a very jolly little card party last Friday night. Miss Shephardson, who came out froir England two or three months ago, returns by the Gothic on Thursday. She has been the guest of Mrs Bethune during her stay in Wellington. The engagement is announced between Miss Dorothy Hughes, one of the younger daughters of Mr Henry Hughes of this city, and Dr Moore, of Napier. The wedding is, I believe, to take place this month. Miss Ida Cooper is to be married to Mr Williams, of Palmerston North, in April. Miss Fowler, of Sydney, is staying with Mrs Barron, Hobson street. I saw her the other day looking very nice in white flowered muslin trimmed with lace, large black picture hat, with black tips and ribbon. Lady Atkinson and her daughter are staying with rolations in New Plymouth. Mrs Stratton Izard (Greytown) is staying with Mrs Izard, Hobson street. The Misses Izard have returned from their country visits. Miss Ida Cooper has returned from

I hear that Mr Fraser, M.H.R., of Dunedin, and his daughter are thanking of coming- to reside permanently in this town. They have many friends here who will be pleased to hear this. Mrs Friend is giving a dance out at Karori this evening. The concert given by Herr Balling and Mr Maughan Barnett on Wednesday night ought to be well patronised, as this will bo our last opportunity of hearing Herr Balling perform, as he leaves by the Gothic on Thursday. Violet.
