A conference of delegates of insurance companies is at present sitting in Wellington, the object being to discuss and remove anomalies that may exist in the insurance tariff in various parts of the Colony. The list of delegates is as follows :—Messrs T. R. Fisher (Standard Company), C. Salter (Royal Company), T. J. Gale (London and Lancashire), H. A. Banner (Norwich Union), R. M. Simpson (Phoenix), J. Sinclair (Northern), D. Gray (Guardian), F. H. Pickering (Imperial), F. Allen (Commercial Union), F. R. Bunsford (Manchester), W. A. Walton (Royal Exchange), M. W. Clarke (Liverpool, London and Globe), E. D. Craig (New Zealand Company), G. S. Jameson (United), P. Barr (Australian Alliance), J. W. Brindley (Victoria), H. E. Williams (National), J. Kirker (South British), G. A. Russell (North British), J. G. Carpenter (North German), A. Baddeloy (Palatine), W. D. Meares (Alliance). Mr T. R. Fisher is chairman of the conference. Bishop Wallis writes stating that the following sums have been paid to the credit of the cathedral fund at the Union Bank : —Mr Edwin Hesketh, Auckland, .£lO 10s ; Rev F. H. Chase, D.D., Cambridge, England, £5; Professor Pennefather, Adelaide, (first instalment of .£2o),' £lO. - The proposal to borrow" .£7500 for drainage works in the Manawatn Land Drainage Dis« trict was lost at the poll of the ratepayers,
