FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITION.
| Masterton, January 22. The inaugural competition under tho auspices of the WairarapaFire Brigades'Association took place here to-day. The Masterton Municipal, Masterton Volunteer, Ivuripuni, Petone and Greytown Brigades were represented ; but the attendance of the public was not large. Messrs Jenkins (Wellington), Kerster (Palmerston North) and Tait (Masterton) acted as judges, Mr G. L. Braggins being secretary. The Greytown Band played selections during the afternoon. The following are the results of the principal events:— Manual Engine (dry), one man.—-L. Zillwood (Greytown), 1 ; E. Braggins (M.M.), 2; H. Stinson (M.M.), 3. Laddek, Bescue, for two men.—Ewmgton and Braggins (M.M.), * 1 Stinson and Leston (M.V.), 2: Pickering and Mercer (M.M.), 3. Manual Engine Competition, for five men.—Petone, 1; Masterton (M.), 2; Greytown, 3. Coupling Practice, for two men.—Pragnell and Fellingham (M.M.), 1; Humphries and Zillwood (Greytown), 2; Butcher and B. Braggins (Kuripuni), 3. Ladder Race, one man.—E. Braggins (M.M.), 1; A. H. Pickering (M.M.), 2; D. A. Pickering (Pahiatua), 3. Manual Engine (dry), for three men. — Greytown No. 1 team, 1 ; Greytown No. 2, 2 ; Petone, 3. The day's proceedings concluded with a
