The Minister of Lands issued instructions some time since for the Puhipuhi forest in the North Auckland district to be snrveyed into allotments with a view to the disposal of the rights of cutting timber upon it. The work is now well in hand, and by the time the railway extension to the borders of the forest is finished the Lands Department will be in a position to dispose of the timber. The resolution passed at a public meeting held in Auckland on Tuesday last week expressive of patriotic satisfaction at the attitude of the Imperial Government in respect of the Venezuela difficulty and the Transvaal trouble has been forwarded by the Premier to His Excellency the Governor in order that he may cable it to the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
