PRINCE HENRY OF BATTENBERG.
London, January 22. As Prince Henry of Battenberg did not show satisfactorj'' improvement from the attack of fever, he left the Gold Coast for England with the view of receiving better medical attention and treatment, but he died, on Monday, when the steamer was off Sierra/ Leone. Prince Henry of Battenberg was proceeding' to Madeira when tho relapse set in. The Queen is quite prostrated at the tidingsof his death. Her Majesty had a delicate interview with Princess Beatrice in breaking the news. Tho proposed review of tho squadron by the Queen has been cancelled owing to thePrince's death. London, January 23. It is expected that tho funeral of Prince Henry of Battenberg will take place at Windsor Castle. The Emperor of Germany has sent a message of condolence to the Koyal Family. Many meetings have been held in London; and the provinces, at which resolutions have been carried of sympathy with the Queen in the loss of one who volunteered for service in a foreign country. The Prince's death has been a terrible blow to the Queen, who is most deeply affected, especially at the knowledge that the happy life- of her favourite daughter has been thus crushed. Tho Queen, who was prostrated by the? news of the death of Prince Henry of Battenfberg, passed a sleepless night, and is now far from well. London, January 24. The body of Prince Henry of Battenberg arrives on the 7th, and the remains will be accorded a military funeral. London, January 2£L Tho Agents-General have written to. Mr Chamberlain expressing tho heartfelt sympathy of the colonies with the Queers on the death of Prince Henry of Battenberg. London, January 26. The remains of the late Brince- Henry will bo buried at Whippingham, in accordance witli his will. The Queen and Princess Beatrice are recovering from their prostration. Ottawa, January 24„ The House of Commons has carried a resolution expressing condolence with tho Queen. Priv.ec Henry Maurice of Battonberg, who was the second son of Princo Alexander off Hesse, was born at Milan, on the s*h of October, ISSS. On the 23rd July, 1885, he was married to the Queen's favourite and youngest daughter, Princess Beatrice, Four children have been born of the marriage. Prince Henry joined the expedition against King Prempeh, and was invalided with fever a few. v/oeks ago, which has now proved fatal.
