London, January 21. Monson, who was acquitted on the charge of shooting Lieutenant Hamborough, has been charged with perjury under the name of Wyville. The charge is the outcome of the burning of Morson's house at Douglas, in connection with which he made a claim of «£SOO upon the Royal Insurance Company for jewellery destroyed. London, January 24. The Union Bank of Australia recommends the payment of a dividend of 5 per cent., and the carrying forward of .£12,000. A meeting of the shareholders in the English, Scottish and Australian Bank unanimously approved the Bill for the reconstruction of the Bank. London, January 25. Leading Queensland firms are arranging to establish meat extract works in the vicinity of the Gulf of Carpentaria. A large quantity of the frozen mutton brought by the Gulf of Siam is being distributed among the charities by the Lord Mayor. The Gulf of Venice caught fire in the Mersey, and had to be flooded. A thousand tons of fine goods were ruined. The Australasian Mortgage and Agency Company shows a profit for the year of ,£39.898. It' pays a dividend on the preference shares, the balance being carried forward. The Hon T. Playford, the South Australian Agent-General, begins the inscription of that colony's stock on February 10. Glyim, Mills and Co., who previously did the business, have completely surrendered their interests. The s.s. Aotea, which left London on the 23rd inst bound for Wellington and Lyttelton, has grounded in the Thames, but will probably float off next tide. China is willing to open the country traversed by her western river system to trade provided she is allowed to retain the territory ceded to Britain on the Burmese boundary in 1894. Mr Egan's mission to America on behalf of the Irish amnesty fund was a failure.
