"We have received from Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs a copy of '-The East Coast and Hawko's Bay Directory," published by Mr George Hescott, of Napier. The book is handsomely got up, and is admirably arranged, containing as it does a streets, trades, and alphabetical directory and a large amount of carefully-selected official information. A digest of the principal Acts of Parliament is given, a special feature being the extracts of the Stock Act, which must prove invaluable to growers of stock. The work has a large sale both in New Zealand and Australia, but should prove more interesting to those districts for which it immediately caters. A summary of the sheep returns for the North Island and of the frozen meat export for the Colony are also given, and should prove interesting not only to those concerned, but to the general public. Special attention has been given to the tide tables for Napier and Gisborne, and this should commend the work to mariners who trade on the East Coast. Mr John Jack (nominated by Messrs J. G. W. Aitken and A. H. Miles), and Mr Harold Boauchamp (nominated by Messrs E. Bishop and M. P. Cameron), were on Tuesday declared re-elected unopposed as the ratepayers' representatives on, the Wellington Harbour Board.
