AQUATICS.

The retirement of Mr A. S. Paterson, I from the captaincy of the Wellington I Rowing Club is greatly regretted in the shed, and a movement is on foot among members to present him with a memento in recognition of his services during his five years' term of office. The presentation will take the form of a handsomely framed collection of photographs. The centro picture will be a large sized group of past and present officers and members of the Club, who, to the number of over 100, were photographed by Mr W. Kinsey, of Lambton quay, specially for the presentation. Around this group will be placed cabinet photos of the pioneer shed and the present shed, the first president (Dr Hutchison) and the present president (Mr Joseph Saunders). Mr Tom Sullivan and the Club's old invincible crew—McKay, Sullivan, Rose and Bridson —the first secretary (Mr W. Ross) and the present secretary (Mr A. M. Burns). The vacant spaces between these photos will be filled in by sketches of the principal rowing courses of the Colony and other marine scenes. The whole enclosed in a handsome frame will form a splendid and valuable memento of the Club. The presentation will be made at the Club's social dance on 14th inst. Yacht-building in Auckland, we learn from a recent visitor to the northern city, is going on briskly. Mr Logan, sen., North Shore, has laid the keel for the new 12rater he is building. This boat is likely to prove a formidable opponent of the noted Waitangi. The new yacht will be 3ft longer on the keel than the Waitangi, 6ft longer overall, Ift more in beam, and with lft less freeboard. There will be 12 ton of lead on the The fittings are to be of tiki wood. The destination of the new boat after she is launched will be Lyttelton, for the Championship Regatta. Messrs Logan Bros, have a couple of 2£-raters on the stocks, one of them, a centreboard yacht, being about complete. They are also building a 5-ton rater to an Auckland order. The Seagers, ironfounders, have in, course of construction a 2£ steel yacht* with inch-plate keel, and 18in deep.
