The ships Oronsay and Imberhorne, which arrived at Sydney on the 30th ult., report that they encountered an exceptional number of icebergs in the Indian Ocean during their voyages from London. The area of ocean covered by these icebergs, was 600 miles in length and 250 miles in breadth. The ice was right in the course of ships bound for Australia, and the vessels had to make south from 42-£deg. to 45deg. to avoid the immense mass of ice. The Oronsay sighted 50 bergs in one day, and the Imberhorne was hove-to for a night among them, as it was unsafe to proceed. In some cases the vessels passed so close to the bergs that the men could have jumped from the ship's rail on to the ice.
