THE RING.

A boxing contest for ,£SO a side between W. Fisher, of Wellington, and H. Plaacke was commenced at Cloke's Hall, Tinakori road, on Monday. The men went at one another in sledge-hammer fashion for four rounds, when the police stepped in and put a stop to the proceedings. In the first round Plaacke had all the best of the bout, twice knocking Fisher clean off his feet. In the second round, however, the local man more than regained his lost laurels, and it looked as though the battle would terminate with the second round. Plaacke managed to hold out until the call of corners, and in the brief spell allowed pulled himself together again. The two rounds following were of a very merry description, Fisher having slightly the best of some very hard hitting.

Informations have been laid by the police against the principals and officials in the interrupted boxing contest which toot place at Cloke's Hall on Monday night. William Fisher and Harry Plaacke, the contestants, are charged with having assaulted one another, and James Walden (referee), Harry Woods (timekeeper), William Thipton (10 seconds keeper), Charles Richardson (Plaacke's second), and George Cloke (Fisher's second) are charged with having assaulted Plaacke and Fisher —that its to say, they are charged with having been concerned in the affair. The cases are set down for hearing on Monday next.
