Memo, from Woodville District Jockey Club. 7th June, 1895. To Mr P. J. Mttrtagh. Dear Sir, —I have much pleasure in stating that the working of your Patent Portable Starting Machine at our Race Meeting on the 3rd April last gave entire satisfaction alike to the Club's officials and the public. Our own official starter who manipulated the machine was delighted with it, as it made his duties much lighter and pleasanter than they had ever been before. From all who spoke to me concerning the machine I have heard nothing but praise. I have, therefore, no hesitation in recommending it for trial to other Clubs. Yours truly, WM. NICHOLSON, Secretary. [COPY.] ' Otaki, 18th June, 1895. "Mr P. J. Mtjrtagh, Wellington. Dear Sir, —I have the pleasure, by direction of my Stewards, to inform you that they are all perfectly satisfied with the working of your Starting Machine, which was used at every start at our Kaee Mooting of the 21th May last; and they are confident that, your machine will become the most useful and easiest worked one in New Zealand. I am, Sir, Yours obedientlv, H. F. EAGAR, Secretary, Otaki Maori Racing Club. [copy.] Waipawa County Racing Club. Kaikora North, 13th April, 1895. This is to certify that Mr P. J. Murtagh's Portablo Starting Machine was used on our Racecourse at the Autumn Meeting on 10th April, 1895, to the entire satisfaction of the Stewards and the Club's patrons. We have, therefore, no hesitation in recommending the Machine to other Clubs. One of the starts was made from a walk, and the others from a stand-still, and in all instances the starts made were a long way ahead of the flag. The Club's official starter worked the Machine without a hitch, and was thoroughly pleased with the results. That the starts made were first-class was quite evident from the applause bestowed by the public each time the net was raised. WM. WHITE, President. E. GRAY, 699 Secretary.
