' A deputation from the Onslow Borough Council waited on the City Council last week regarding the lighting of the Wadestown road and the maintenance of the Hutt road. The Mayor of Onslow (Mr M. H. McCarthy) said the Borough Council wished the City Council to light that portion of the Wades town road which was within the Corporation's district. He also suggested that one or two lights should be placed in the Wadestown Reserve. The Mayor said the Council would consider the matter. The Mayor of Onslow spoke of the maintenance of the Hutt road, urging that the ratepayers of the city of Wellington made very great use of the road, and that the City Council should, therefore, contribute. The Mayor replied that this was a big question of policy. The question of lighting the Wadestown road was referied to the Electric Light Committee, and that of the Hutt road to the Public Works Committee. The lowest reading of the barometer in the shade on Thursday was 32*5, and the minimum reading on the grass was 23. The frost at the Hutt during Thursday night was so severe that water in the taps and pumps was frozen on Fiiday morning. The Stipendiary Magistrate is to sit at the Courthouse, Wellington, on Monday, Bth July, to review assessments of land within the'city of Wellington,.the boroughs of Lower Hutt, Petone, Onslow, Karori and Melrose, and the counties of Horowhenua and Hutt. _
