FIRE ON LAMBTON QUAY.
A fire occurred on Wednesday in a building at the rear of Mr Crespin’s grocery store, Lambton quay. Tim outbreak was discovered at about 2 o’clock by Gunner Cox (who is at present doing police duty) and Constable Cairns, and securing two leads of hose from the Government Buildings, they soon had the flames under control. The Fire Brigade arrived on the scene shortly afterward, having received the alarm from Mr Brown, night-watchman. The building in which the fire originated was destroyed, and some little damage was done, chiefly by water, in the premises of C reap in, Oakley (tailor), and Cordossa (fruiterer). The insurances were not obtainable when we went to press.
