With a view to set le the question whether Viscount Wolmer (heir to the late Lord Selborne) is entitled to retain his seat in the House of Commons for West Edinburgh, instructions have been given for a writ to be issued for the seat. Sir W. Vernon Harcourt, leader of the House, approved of the order, and said that even if tho action proposed led to conflict with the House of Lords, Lord Selborne himself was responsible. The committee set up by the House of Commons to report on the matter has reported that Viscount Wolmer has succeeded to the earldom.
