At the Auckland Magistrate’s Court in . the case brought by the Official Assignee in Bankruptcy against James Whitelaw, a bankrupt, for not having kept such books of accounts as were usual and proper, the defendant was committed fer trial. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, May 20. This morning Mr Barton, Registrar of the Supreme Court, gave judgment in the case of MeNicol Bros. v. Wi Pere, M.H.R. He said he was of opinion, after carefully looking into the case and the authorities quoted, that an act of bankruptcy had been committed. He therefore adjudged Wi Pere bankrupt. On Mr Rees’ application, proceedings were stayed, pending an appeal.
