ARRIVAL OP THE RIMUTAKA. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s s.s. Rimutaka left Plymouth on 6th April, arriving at Santa Cruz at 5 a.m. on the 11th ; landed mails and passengers, coaled, and lelt for Capetown at 1 p.m. same day, which was reached at 6.30 a.m. on the 2 /th ; landed passengers, received mails and passengers, left at 2 p.m., and arrived Hobart at 2 a.m. on the 16th ; discharged cargo and left at 7.30 p.m. for Wellington : passed Cape Fare' well at 8 p.m. on the 20th, and arrived m harbour at 5.39 next morning. The voyage was uneventful, and the weather generally fine. She takes in a quantity of wool, meat, timber, &c., fo- London, and was to sail yesterday for Lyttelton and Oamaru, making the former her final port of departure from the Colony.

Pylades, which arrived here on Tuesday from Sydney, via Auckland and Tauranga, is a composite screw corvette of 1420 tons, 1400 h.p. and 12 guns, and is a sister ship to the Rapid and Royalist, but is better armed and engined. Her description is as follows : —Size, 1420 tons ; armament, 14 sin 38cwt b.l.r. guns, besides eio-ht machine guns ; engines, 1400 i.li.p. ; built in 1884 in the Royal Navy Dockyard, Sheerness ; barque rigged ; speed, 14 knots.
