The new premises erected by Mr G. Bodley, confectioner, on Lambton quay, were thrown open to the public for inspection on Saturday evening, and attracted large numbers of visitors. The building, which is of brick, is an ornament to the quay. In the shop front is displayed a tempting array of sweetmeats of various descriptions, and in the interior two statues mark the entrance to the public diningroom, which is shut off from the public gaze by a barricade. The diningroom is pleasantly laid out, andcontains accommodation for a very large number cf diners, and in addition to this there is a ladies 5 diningroom adjoining, the kitchen, &c., being at the back in close proximity to both roojns. Passing up a wide flight of stairs one reaches a large room, 43ft x 32ft, which is admirably suited for public dinners, or for tea parties. It opens out on to a wide balcony. Attached to this room is a kind of bar, communicating with a scullery, and a lift is provided by which meals can be sent up from the kitchen below. The room can also be approached by a private staircase opening from the street, which would be very useful in the event of the room being used for private dinners. The name of the proprietor is worked in variegated tiling in front of the premises. The arrangements throughout are excellent, the building is lit by electricity, and Mr Bodley may confidently anticipate a very large share of public patronage in his new quartei s. Messrs Huddart, Parker and Co. have taken the local agency of the CanadianAustralian Steamship Company, which has been held for the last two years by Messrs Levin and Co
