Freeman R. Jackson and Co.’s Wanganui stock report (telegraphed on the 15th to the Mail) is as follows : —The yards at Waverley were quite full of stock, but prices weie without alteration. We sold nearly ail that came forward. At Wanganui more stock were penned than wers advertised, and although prices were no better the sale was brisker, selling a good number under the hammer, and we ultimately sold all the sheep except one pen of lambs. Pigs were in large supply, selling slightly under last sale rates. Cattle—At Waverley : Forward bullocks, A 4 to A 4 10s ; steers, A 3 10s to A 3 16s ; milch cows, A 3 15s to A 5 ss; weaners, 2?s 0d to 295. At Wanganui: Small fat bullocks, A 5 12s Gd; cows, A 3 13s 6d to A 3 19s ; forward bullocks, At; steers, up to A32s Gd ; milch cows, A 3 10s to AG. Sheep —At Y/averley: Store wethers, 6a to 7s 2d ; fat, 8s 3d; lambs, 3s 8d to 4s Id. At Wnnganui: Store wethers, 6s 7d to 7s Gd; fat ewes, 5s lid to 7s Gd ; other ewes, 4s to Gs 3d ; old, 2s Gd to 3s. Pigs—Small baconers, 30s to 32s ; porkers, 16s to 22s ; small pigs, 5s Gd to 10s.

The following is the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s report of the Addington market (teleg'raphed on the 15th to the Mail) : —Fat Cattle A medium entry, some being of very good quality; bidding, owing to the small supply, being - more animated. Best beef, to 20s; cow and heifer, to 16s. Store cattle—A poor entry; very little business doing. Dairy cattle —Fair entry ; business quiet. Pivs — Another large supply ; demand quiet at late l-ates. Fat sheep—A very large yarding of somewhat indifferent quality; prime freezers in fair demand ; trade quality, equal to last week ; freezing quality, equal to 11s 4d f.0.b., skins and offal to vendor. Store sheep—A large entry, competition being good for forward sheep suitable for turnips ; demand for other descriptions weak. Fat lambMarket practically over. Laery and Co., Limited, report for the week as follows : —Wheat —The activity of the Southern market reported in our last has been continued during the week, and values have

undergone a still further advance. We quote prime milling, 2s to 2s f.o.b., Southern sorts. Whole fowl wheat is in short supply, and values are firmer. Best samples are worth to-day, 2s lOd, ex. store, Wellington. Oats —Indications are not wanting that bottom is now reached, and wo anticipate that any alteration will be in favour of higher rates. We quote prime short oats, Is 7d to Is 8d ; stout feed. Is Gd to Is 7d ; Danish, Is 7d; duns, Is Sd to Is 9d. Barley—Without improvement. In the absence of sales we repeat our last quotations. Choice malting", 3s to 3s Gd ; medium to good, 2s 6d. Maize —Iu fair request at 2s Gd to 2s 7d per bushel. Pollard—Market firm at 92s 6d per 'ton. Chaff —In fair demand, at from 57s Gd to G2s Gd for prime bright lines ; medium, 47s Gd to 55s por ton. Cocksfoot —A few lines have been offering during the week, and changed hands at xirices about on a par with those last reported. We quote jit-ime bright machinedressed, 4£d; bright hoavy undressed, 3fd to 4d ; rough undressed, 2fd to 3d per lb. A. G. Tajne and Co. report of the markets for the week ending 16th May:— Fat stock —We hold a special sale of fat cattle and sheep at our Hutt yards on Wednesday last. The cattle were partly prime and good beef. The sheep, consisting of wethers and ewes, wore for the most part in good mai’ketable condition. Prioes . realised were as follows Wethers, Ss Gd to 7s Gd ; ewes, Gs to Gs Gd. Beef we quote at 17s Gd to 18s. Storo stock —We have no alteration to quote from last week’s prices; the market still unchanged. Milk cows, now coming to calve, are wanted ; we could place a good number at and from AG to AlO, according to breed, quality, &e. Young cattle are in good demand, and saleable at and from 2 to 2£-yoar-old steers, A2 os to A 3; yearlings, 25s to 30s. Pigs—Stores are in request, and if any of our clients have some we would be pleased to get particulars. Sheepskins—We quote a good market and capital demand, prioes ranging for dry skins from 3J-d to 4Jd per lb. We sell weekly. Rabbitskins —Very few ooming to hand, and we have no improvement in values to report. Quotations are as follow .—Best autumn grey skins, 7d to Sd, medium do, 5d to Gd : summer, 3d to 4d ; suckers and inferior, Id to 2d per lb. Hides —No ohange to report, prices still on a par with last quotations. Tallow —Prime rondored mutton fit for shipping, 17s Gd to 18s; medium to g’ood, 14s Gd to 16s Gd. Grain — Wheat and oats both looking up, and prices in consequence hardening. Our next sale at the Lower Hutt yards takes place on Wednesday, 29th inst., when wo hope to have a good entry. Matthew Henry reports of lyls Palmermerston sale : —The supplies to-day iu both sections wore smaller than usual, Cattle — Chiefly composed of old dairy cows, which mot a fair demand. The few sheep forward wore sold at quotations. Cattle —23,-ye.ar heifers, in calf, A 3 15s; yearlings, 32s 3d ; weaners, I3s to 14s Gd ; dairy oaws, A 4 5s to A 5 15s. Sheep—2-tootli wothers, Gs Gd; medium shorn lambs, 2 s ßd, Weaner pigs, ss. Edwards and Moßeath report that the labour markot is again very dull, and labour plentiful. Townsend and' Paul report of their Saturday’s sale, held in their central yards, Harris street: —There was a very large attendance of the public and a few buyers, but their idea of pricos was small, judging by the very small prices bid for some of the animals. However, we managed to put through the lot from Sydney by the Talune all but two, but we are afraid the returns will not be satisfactory. They were all unbroken animals and our buyers here prefer them broken. Wo had five splendid draughts which the owner was prepared to let go at anything of a reasonable price, but there was not a single enquiry for them. We sold several local hacks at fair prices. One chestnut gelding, 7 years old, by the Premier, we put through at Ao ss. We offered two thorough-bred mares, one by Crown Jewel, dam Lady Jane; one by Artil-

lery, dam Miss Webster, and two spendid pole and harness ponies, but the prices offered did not come up to the owners’ idea of value, so were passed in, and are now for private sale; The following are prices obtained at auction and privately dui’ing the week:—Unbroken hacks, 3 and 4-year-old, A 4 10s to A 9 5s ; unbroken spring trap horses, A 7 to AlO 5s ; unbroken half draughts, Aid to Al 4 10s ; broken draughts, Alsto A2"2 10s ; unbroken draughts, AlO to Al 6 ; nice cob sorts unbroken, A 8 10s to AlO 10s ; ordinary hacks, Asto A 7 ; second* hand saddles, A 1 5s to A 7 ; second-hand har* ness, A2 15s to AS ; horse-covers, all sizes, 13s to 14s. Abraham and "Williams report of their usual sale : —A moderate entry of sheep came forward a.t our Palmerston yards yesterday. The quality and condition of the higher priced lambs warranted the advance obtained over late rates ; other sorts call for no special mention. A better demand existed under the hammer than of late, which enabled a total clearance to be effected, though we cannot quote any advance beyond the lambs referred to. Cattle were in short supply, the inquiry very limited and business is guided accordingly. A full yarding of pigs sold readily. Sheep—Lambs, 4s 2d to 4s 9d; others, 3s 2d ; fat ewes, 4s 8d to 5s lid ; store ewes, 2s lid to 4s Id; store wethers, Gs 3d. Cattle—Cows and calves, A2 15s; light-weight heifers, A 3 7s ; yearling steers, 20s. Pigs—Large porkers, ISs to 20s ; small do., l?s Gd : stores, 8s to 10s ; baconers, 31s. A. G. Taine and Co. report of their usual horse sale, postponed from Saturday until Monday, on account of the lateness of the hour on Saturday There was a moderate attendance, and few buyers. We offered 11 Australian horses and a few others, and sold spring-cart and express horses, broken and unbroken, A 7 to AS 5s ; buggy pony, AS ; fin* broken light filly, A 5 ss. The balance were too light for town requirements and were Unsold.

The following- London market cablegram has boon received by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company : Wool.—Since the opening of the sales fine and medium greasy crossbreds are par to -J-d pCr lb lower. Other descriptions unchanged. There is much irregularity in the bidding, and wools of a faulty character are neglected. The total quantity catalogued to date is 152,000 bales, of which 21,000 bales have been withdrawn. London, May 15. At the wool auctions a medium catalogue is offered. Good sales were effected. London, May 16. An inferior selection of wool was offered to* day. Prices were unchanged. London, May 17. At the wool sales, prices are firm and the bidding spirited. The Continent is buying heavily. The series close on the 28th inst. Bradford tops are quiet, with a firmer tendency. London, May 19. At the wool sales yesterday, a good selection was offered. There was keen competition, and prices remained firm. The quantity sold is 195,000 halos. London, May 20. The Times states that the prospects, of the wool sales arc fairly promising, despite the recent reaction. The carcase of one of the bullocks suffering' from pleuro-pneumonia which were destroyed on board the Perthshire was discovered on Sunday on the Beach at New Brighton, four miles from the township. The Stock Inspector and the police went down and buried it in quicklime. The effort to establish a cheese factory at Te Ore Ore lias failed.
