THE WAIRARAPA FUND.

At a meeting of the General Committee of the Wairarapa fund, the report of the sub-committee suggested that the Auckland committee should vote <£lso (including special contributions named in the account) for the late Mrs McDonald’s family, and <£lo to the people at Otahuhu ; this will leave only two cases to be dealt with—two widows residing at Auckland. In the case of' a widow with four children, the committee recommends an appropriation of .£350 from the Auckland fund to be added to the <£2oo from Wellington, and invested in the purchase of a house. In the case of the other widow, who has one child, the committee recommends that <£3oo be handed to the Public Trustee to be paid to the widow at, say, 25s a week

for two years and ten shillings for so long thereafter as the money will allow. Including the vote from Wellington, there is a balance of <£1062 17s. and the committee recommends its disposal as follows For Mrs Veal and family, <£sso; Mrs Croucher and child, .£3OO ; aged couple at Otahuhu, <£lo ; Mrs McDonald and family, ,£150; total, .£lOls, leaving a balance of <£s2 17s. After the preparation of the necessary deeds, it is expected this balance will be reduced to .£37. The report an .1 accounts were adopted, and the several grants mentioned approved. It was resolved that the balance of the fund, after payment of all claims and charges, be handed to the treasurer of the fund now being - raised for the widows and orphans of the two Lauries recently drowned in the Manakau.
