Hugh Wilson, bacon curer, who was represented by Mr Jardine, applied for his discharge. Seven bankruptcies have taken place in this district during the present month as against seven for February, and 10 for March of last year. There have been 18 bankruptcies for the first quarter of this year, being one more than the number for the first quarter of last year. At the sitting of the Bankruptcy Court on Monday, Mr Quick applied for the approval of the Court to a deed of composition of 6d in the pound in the case of Andrew Young, coach proprietor, and for the annulment of the bankruptcy. Mr Hislop, who represented the National Bank, raised an objection that the notice of the proposal to apply for a confirmation of the creditors* resolution re the composition had not been given to the Court within a month after the confirmation of the resolution. TTi« Honor said he did not see how Mr Quick was going to get over the objection. The application for the Court’s approval to the deed of composition was struck out. The whole proceedings in connection with the deed of composition will now have to be begun de novo. In his statement to the Official Assignee, Frederick William Beale states that he left the National Bank in March, 1885, to travel for an insurance office, but finding it did not pay, gave it up after a few months. From then until 1889 he only secured temporary engagements, and then entered the service of his brother, a solicitor at Dargaville, at a very small salary. His expenses were considerably augmented by his wife’s illness. When he came to Wellington he was served with a summons, and had to file his petition. His only assets are his furniture, which he should value roughly at about .£2O. Jonathan Bidniead, bushman, Tinakori road, was on Monday adjudged bankrupt.
